What is Europe to You? 

What is Europe to You? is the ongoing photographic narrative created by the artist Lisa Borgiani who, since 2019, has been visiting the main European cities and capitals, asking people portrayed in the photos always the same question: What is Europe to you?
The result of each interaction is quite simple: one black and white portrait, one feeling, one location, one name and one profession.The text added to the portrait represents a voice, a way to express the person’s feelings, their hopes, fears, joy and love…

The photographic exhibition includes a collection of portraits taken all around Europe. The inspiration for the exhibition stemmed from the artists' desire to understand what Europe means to people. The exhibition will be shown at the Europa Experience  – David Sassoli, running from 6 September to 14 October 2023. 

Lisa Borgiani's project shows what people think and what their desires and criticisms are: a set of often conflicting opinions emerges where words like chaos, failure or nothing are contrasted with concepts like inclusion, opportunity, freedom, peace, hope, and beauty.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Office in Italy and the European Commission Representation in Italy.
