The Looting of Art in History

Bruxelles
Casa della storia europea

As part of the Bellum & Artes temporary exhibition, the House of European History will host a panel debate on the topic of the looting of art in history. Join Patrick Mestdagh an art dealer, Marie-Sophie de Clippele a lawyer and Susanne Jaeger an art historian, to dive into this topic - the starting point of which will be the Thirty Years War. During the conflict, the victors seized vast collections of artworks and books. Through numerous transfers, some involving multiple relocations, looted art from that era became an integral part of Europe’s shared cultural heritage.

The conversation will be moderated, in English, by art journalist Catherine Hickley. and will precede an audience Q&A session.
